Burton boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is hopeful of signing Derby midfielder Ivan Calero on loan ahead of next week's transfer deadline.

Calero, who usually plays in an attacking role, has been training with the Rams' League Two neighbours and the Spaniard, 19, could soon be making a temporary switch to the Pirelli Stadium. "Hopefully Ivan can come in and we are working at it to get him in," Hasselbaink told the Burton Mail. "He's somebody who will be a big asset to our squad and we are working very hard towards that. "Hopefully it will be clarified in the next day or so. "There should be a few things happening within the next few days, hopefully." Calero has made three substitute appearance for Derby this season, scoring once. He was released by Atletico Madrid in the summer and has been a regular starter for the Rams' Under-21 side. The teenager played the full 90 minutes as the Derby youngsters defeated Stoke 7-1 at Moor Farm on Tuesday afternoon.
