The group draw has been made for next year's Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea.

Ghana, Algeria, South Africa and Senegal have been drawn together in Group C, one of two very competitive looking groups.

The group brings together two former World Cup quarter-finalists in Ghana, now coached by Avram Grant, and Senegal, top-ranked African side Algeria and former Cup of Nations winners South Africa.

South Africa finished top of a qualifying group in which holders Nigeria were eliminated, while Senegal edged out record-winners Egypt.

Group D also looks a tough one with Ivory Coast alongside Cameroon, Mali and Guinea.

Hosts Equatorial Guinea, who stepped in to replace Morocco with just two months to prepare for the 16-team event, will play Republic of Congo in the opening game of the tournament on January 17, while Gabon, with whom they co-hosted the 2012 finals, and 2013 finalists Burkina Faso are the other teams in Group A.

Group B contains 2012 champions Zambia, Tunisia, Cape Verde and Congo.

Full draw:

Group A: Equatorial Guinea (seeded), Burkina Faso, Congo, Gabon

Group B: Zambia (seeded), Cape Verde Islands, Democratic Republic of Congo, Tunisia

Group C: Ghana (seeded), Algeria, Senegal, South Africa
