Huddersfield manager Chris Powell said there is no better club in the country at supporting local schools and the community through its own charity.

Huddersfield Town Foundation was set up by club chairman Dean Hoyle in the summer of 2012 in a bid to help improve the quality of life for young people across the West Yorkshire area and is supported by local businesses.

Every pound that comes into the Foundation is doubled by trustee Hoyle, while the club foots the bill for all administration costs.

"It's phenomenal really, I think we should shout from the rooftops a little bit more about what we do," said former Charlton boss Powell, named as permanent replacement for Mark Robins at the John Smith's Stadium in September.

"I know a lot of football clubs support what goes on in their local area, but I think we're second to none personally.

"My previous club are very good at working within the community, and rightly so, but there were reasons behind that, because of moving away and losing a generation of fans.

"But what Huddersfield does here with the Foundation, involved with local schools, local football clubs in the area, engaging with youngsters, serving over 1,000 breakfasts a day.

"I mean 1,000 breakfasts in a week would be something, but every day - we should be telling everyone this is what you should do.

"Football clubs are the focal point of any community and I've realised that in my two-and-a-half months here.

"It's a bit different down south where there's loads of other clubs. I can see here why people here are proud of their club, proud when we win and that's the same with our Foundation.

"The players back it. They turn up at schools before they come into training. I'm really proud of the work the club has done and will continue to do.

"I think we lead the way with the initiative and I've been taken aback by the players' support for it."
