Newcastle defender Ryan Taylor has revealed the injury scare which forced him off during the 1-0 victory over QPR is not as bad as was feared.

Taylor lasted just 34 minutes in his first league start for 993 days following two cruciate ligament injuries, and left the pitch in tears.

United boss Alan Pardew said after the match that the team’s sixth successive victory was tempered by the fear that Taylor has suffered a serious setback.

Taylor's American surgeon, Richard Steadman, was among the crowd at St James' Park and accompanied the 30-year-old to hospital for a scan.

Pardew said: "We are sweating with Ryan. Fortunately, his surgeon was here in the stands today, he had come to watch from America, so he's gone with him to hospital with our doctor, and we are just fingers-crossed on that scan.”

But Taylor used his social media account to inform Newcastle supporters that all was well, and he left the pitch for precautionary reasons.

Taylor said: “Thank you all for your positive messages. I appreciate them all, just to let you know I have no major problem.

“I had to come off today just to be on the safe side. I was just gutted to come off that's why I got so emotional as I've worked so hard to get back. Thanks again.”
