A number of Football League clubs are keeping tabs on non-league hot-shot John Campbell, Sky Sports understands.

The former Newcastle and Manchester City youngster is currently plying his trade for Jarrow Roofing in his native Newcastle and prolific form in front of goal has seen him attract attention.

Campbell has scored 18 goals in 14 games so far this season, including  five-goal haul last weekend and his performances have alerted several Football League clubs.

Campbell started off at Newcastle at the age of nine and stayed there until he was 14 when he joined Manchester City's academy.

After leaving City he had spells in the lower leagues before signing for Darlington and during his time with the Quakers he helped them win the FA Trophy in 2011.

The 25-year-old is now earning rave reviews in the non-league ranks and several clubs are weighing up offering Campbell another chance in the professional ranks.
