Sky Bet Championship: Ben Watson and Chris McCann on comeback trail for Wigan

Wigan's long-term injury absentees Ben Watson and Chris McCann appeared in a behind-closed-doors friendly on Tuesday afternoon.

Watson, Latics' hero in the 2013 FA Cup final, has not played since breaking his leg against Barnsley in February, although he did sign a new deal at the DW Stadium over the summer.

Meanwhile, fellow midfielder McCann has been out of action since March when he sustained a knee problem when tackling robust Manchester City defender Micah Richards.

The pair played 60 minutes at the club's training ground in a game with Everton on Tuesday in their first action since the spring.

"We have to be very careful with Ben and Chris; we cannot afford to rush things and their recoveries must both be perfect," manager Uwe Rosler said on Monday.

"Welcoming players of this calibre back into the group certainly brings extra quality to training sessions."
