West Brom's Saido Berahino tipped for England call by Alan Irvine

West Bromwich Albion boss Alan Irvine does not believe it will be long before Saido Berahino earns an England call-up if he maintains his current level of performance.

Berahino only made his first Premier League appearance a year ago but he has quickly established himself as an important player for West Brom.

He has started the new season in fine form and scored twice in Sunday’s 4-0 victory over Burnley to become the top-scoring Englishman in the Premier League with four goals.

Roy Hodgson's England face San Marino and Estonia in European qualifiers next month and Irvine believes 21-year-old Berahino, who has nine goals in 11 Under-21 games - can make the step up to the senior side.

Alan Irvine was delighted with West Brom’s performance in their victory over Burnley

"If he keeps on playing like that and keeps on scoring goals, then he'll get all those rewards," the Scot said in his post-match press conference.

"I don't think Roy Hodgson will be looking and saying 'he's too young' or anything like that.

"He'll put him in as he's shown already - if he feels he's the best player for the position.

"The goals he's scored so far will certainly make Roy think about him.

"But right now, Saido's got to keep working the way he does. He stays to do finishing and movement after training every day. And he's getting the benefits from all of that."
