Davis keen to add to his Crewe

Crewe boss Steve Davis has revealed he is closing in on a loan signing as he looks to bolster his side's defence.

He has been linked with a move for Swansea's Alan Tate, with Alex having shipped 21 goals in eight games. They were thumped 6-1 at MK Dons on Saturday and sit bottom of League One. The Railwaymen have won just once this season and Davis, who was interested in Sheffield United's Andy Butler before he rejoined Walsall on loan, admits they need help. "I'm looking to bring in another defender," Davis told the club's official site. "There has been dialogue with the club and he is a player with experience who I feel would help us. "He is a leader and a voice and has been there and done it. I just think he would help us on the pitch and off it. "It would make a difference to us and we will help the young group because I've always said that when you have young players they struggle with game-management because of their lack of experience."
