Wigan Athletic boss Uwe Rosler has vowed to dictate the terms of those he is prepared to let leave on short-term loan agreements.

Departures are expected over the coming weeks, with Football League clubs able to make alterations to their squads until mid-November.

Rosler acknowledges that moving out those on the fringes of the first team fold at the DW Stadium will be beneficial to all concerned.

He admits to have already received several enquiries, but has also been quick to point out that none of his players will be leaving ‘on the cheap’.

Rosler said in the Evening Post: “We have had phone calls this week about our players.

“We played three over-age players in the development squad on Tuesday, and they did very well, they did themselves justice.

“I guess that will come, enquiries will come.

“But it’s important that players go out on our terms, not on the cheap.”

With senior players returning from injury, Rosler now has a wealth of Sky Bet Championship talent at his disposal – with striker Martyn Waghorn unable to secure a place in the matchday squad for a midweek draw at Huddersfield Town.

Rosler added: “I had to make a tough call between Martyn and James McClean for the bench.

“I was heartbroken when I told Martyn he wouldn’t be involved because he didn’t deserve that.

“He’s worked so hard to put himself in the position to challenge, and he got his goal against Birmingham.

“But on Tuesday, for tactical reasons, because McClean can also play left wing-back, I went that way.

“James hadn’t trained or played much football this season and at some point we had to integrate him back into the squad.

“I felt Tuesday was a good time against the Huddersfield centre-backs, who I feel lack a bit of pace. I was hoping he could have worked the channels and hurt them.”
