Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon is confident he can become a better player after shaking off his injury problems.

Gordon, who was regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in Europe after joining Sunderland from Hearts in 2007 in a £9million deal, has seen his last two years ravaged by injuries.

However, the 31-year-old is starting to rebuild his career at Celtic after joining the Scottish champions on a free transfer this summer.

Gordon has impressed in his six games for Celtic this season and the keeper admits he is pleasantly surprised at his return to top level football after fears he may not play again in the wake of his serious knee problems.

It's been brilliant to come back and play as many matches in such a short space of time. I didn't know if it would be possible to do that but I'm feeling as good as I have done in a few years.

"Who says I can't go on and be better than I was at my peak before? I don't want to set myself that limit of getting back to where I was before," he said.

"That's what I am striving to do and I want to improve. I'm more experienced now. I've had a lot of international games and played in the Premier League.

"I want to continue getting better and I think I can do that at Celtic.

"It's been brilliant to come back and play as many matches in such a short space of time. I didn't know if it would be possible to do that but I'm feeling as good as I have done in a few years.

"I know it's possible again and my body will take it, so I just want to continue and put the rest of what's happened behind me.

"Have I surprised myself? Yes, definitely but I'm still well aware that as soon as I make my first error people will look at it differently, so I need to keep my levels as high as possible

"I know there are going to be mistakes during the season and things will not all go my way.

"It has started well but I know every game has the potential to go wrong and as long as I keep that in mind I can go for as long as possible."
