Sheffield Wednesday manager Stuart Gray is confident his team will continue to make progress following their impressive 2-0 win over Birmingham.

The Owls have now won three of their four away games in the Sky Bet Championship this season and are seventh in the table.

Gray said: "It was a different type of win. Not being disrespectful to Birmingham but a lot of teams have played in front of us.

"They played to their strength to get the ball forward to the two lads up front. They built from there and it shook us a bit as we didn't win enough second balls.

"But in the second half we just dominated the game as we became more creative.

"I am delighted because when we come against such a team we now know we can compete.

"It is now six clean sheets and this is a good place to come and get three points. Last season we were battered 4-1 so it is nice to put that game to bed."

Gray also praised striker Stevie May who opened the scoring midway through the second half.

He added: "May will score goals. He created something out of nothing and it will give him confidence going into the next game against Reading."

Jeremy Helan sealed Birmingham's fate with the second goal in the 89th minute and home manager Lee Clark said: "You cannot play so well in the first half and be so different in the second period.

"This is something we've got to address very quickly. We allowed Leeds back into the game in the closing stages and it occurred again against Wednesday.

"We were the dominant team in the first half and then the second half things changed too dramatically for us.

"Goals change games but we have to be more clinical. I am not going to change my tune about the strikers but they have to take responsibility and provide the gilt-edge on our performances."
