Women's football: USA goalkeeper Libby Stout loving life with Liverpool Ladies

American goalkeeper Libby Stout admits it was a dream come true when she put pen to paper on a contract with Liverpool Ladies.

Born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky, Stout had a spell playing in France before joining Liverpool at the turn of the year from German Bundesliga side BV Cloppenburg.

And the 24-year-old shot-stopper admits the chance to become part of the Liverpool family was too good an offer for her to resist.

"I've really enjoyed my time here at Liverpool so far," Stout told Sky Sports. "It's been a great experience and coming here has far exceeded my expectations to be honest.

“I wanted to be a part of this club and live in England - Liverpool Football Club has such an amazing history to it.

"It's such a big name, everyone has heard of them back home and there are so many supporters of the club back home.

"I've been a supporter of Liverpool and when they come knocking you don't say no. For me it was like a dream come true."

The former USA U23 international admits compatriot Amanda Da Costa’s presence at Liverpool has helped make her move to England a straightforward one.

“It’s always nice to hear someone who speaks kind of like you do and understands where you come from," she said.

“We talk about a lot of stuff from back home and it's nice to have someone who relates to you for sure but the whole team have been so welcoming.

“It’s been a really easy transition for me."

With Stout between the sticks, defending FA WSL champions Liverpool have conceded just three goals in nine matches including six clean sheets for the American.

"Certainly that is what you aim for as a goalkeeper – not to let too many into the net," Stout explained.

"I’m very pleased with the number of clean sheets I’ve kept but we’ve been extremely strong as a defensive unit the whole season so they’re not all my clean sheets, those are the team’s.

"My defenders have definitely helped me out tremendously and we’ve been really solid but for sure I love to see a clean sheet."
