St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright has said that he wants midfielder Murray Davidson to sign a new contract.

The 26-year-old has been with the Scottish Premiership club since 2009, having joined them from Livingston.

The Scotland international underwent a major knee operation in January and made his return to the pitch against Ross County Under-20s on Tuesday.

Davidson’s current deal with St. Johnstone runs out on August 30, but Wright is keen for the player to put pen to paper on a new contract.

“Murray is still short of full match fitness, but he’s already two months ahead of schedule so I’m delighted with him,” said Wright, quoted in the Daily Record.

“The chairman and I have had meetings with him and his advisors and we hope to get him on a longer deal.”
