Edwards hails Tranmere recovery

Rob Edwards hailed Tranmere's powers of recovery after they beat Wycombe 2-0 to claim their first win of the season.

Goals from Cole Stockton and Max Power earned Edwards his maiden win as manager, although goalkeeper Owain Fon Williams made three fine saves to deny the hosts. And Edwards praised the way his players had responded from their late 2-1 defeat to Shrewsbury on Saturday, where they conceded twice in injury time. "It had been a long three days since Saturday's result but I'm delighted to get the first win and delighted for the players because they deserved their win," Edwards said. "To score two goals away from home at a difficult place is great and it gets us off and running. "We got things wrong on Saturday but we got a few more things right here. The game is crazy because Fonners probably had more to do than he did against Shrewsbury but we got the result. "We made a good start but Owain then made two saves to keep us in the game. "I didn't criticise anybody for Saturday's performance because we're trying to build a team here and we needed to add to it. The lads were frustrated so I had to lift them back up in training and they responded really well." Stockton volleyed Rovers ahead on 19 minutes after meeting Power's cross before Power doubled the lead after the break. The hosts had were frustrated by Fon Williams, who produced a point-blank save to prevent a Michael Ihiekwe own goal, but manager Gareth Ainsworth felt his side had not been at their best. "I thought we lacked a little bit of energy and we were out-muscled a few times on the ball but I'm fine with how we have been going in the first four games," Ainsworth said. "It just looked like we ran out of steam a little bit and we were a little bit loose but that happens. It's a long building process and hopefully people will realise that a bit more now. "All over the park we were sometimes a little bit second best. "We've had a bad night but created a lot of chances, they just didn't go in and on another night we may have capitalised. "Their keeper set his stall out in the first five minutes and from there we never beat him. Tranmere had few chances, took two of them and that was the difference."
