Substitute Valentin Lavigne climbed off the bench to fire home a late winner as Lorient stunned 10-man Monaco 2-1 to claim their first-ever win at the Stade Louis II.

Monaco's star striker Radamel Falcao, who also started on the bench, had looked to have earned last season's runners-up a point when he slotted home a 78th-minute penalty to cancel out Vincent Aboubakar's early spot-kick for Lorient.

However, it was another replacement who ended up making the decisive impact as 20-year-old Lavigne took advantage of the wide open spaces behind the Monaco defence - missing captain Ricardo Carvalho since the 68th minute due to a red card - to net a 87th-minute winner for his side.

With many of the expected contenders having dropped points in the opening round this season, Caen find themselves top of the table, but Lyon are level on points after Hubert Fournier made a winning start to life as coach at the Stade de Gerland with a 2-0 win over Rennes.

Second-half goals from Steed Malbranque and Alexandre Lacazette proved enough to ensure the club a share of first place after the first round of fixtures.
