Gillingham have signed striker Luke Norris on a two-year deal from Brentford.

The 21 year-old turned down the offer of a new contact with Brentford in order to join the Sky Bet League 1 club.

The two clubs are currently negotiating a compensation package due to the player’s age.

Norris made four first team appearances for Brentford since joining the club’s youth programme in 2010 and scored one goal, which came in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy against Wimbledon last September.

The striker spent most of the 2013/14 season on loan at Dagenham & Redbridge and Northampton in Sky Bet League 2.

Brentford academy director Ose Aibangee told the club's website “We took him from a college course and he is now a League 1 footballer.

“We offered him a contract because we felt he could grow in to a player that would do well for Brentford in the Championship.

“There were a number of clubs interested in taking him and he chose Gillingham.

“He has been given the opportunity to play first team football immediately and has decided that is right for him.

“We would have liked to see how he developed if he had stayed at Brentford but I respect his decision.

“I am sure he will do well at Gillingham.”
