October 19 - Nets first Premiership goal with stunning late winner as Everton overcome champions Arsenal at Goodison Park. 2003: January 17 - Signs new deal to stay at Everton until the end of 2005-06 season. February 12 - Becomes youngest player to win a full England cap when he appears as a second-half substitute against Australia. September 6 - At 17 years and 317 days, becomes England's youngest goalscorer with equaliser in England's match in Macedonia. 2004: August 27 - Hands in transfer request to Everton. August 31 - Signs for Manchester United for £27million just over four hours short of the deadline. October 19 - Ferguson confirms reports that Rooney has declined a new deal and wants to leave United, also suggesting he had not respected the club. October 20 - Rooney issues a statement confirming his desire to leave: "I met with (chief executive) David Gill last week and he did not give me any of the assurances I was seeking about the future squad." October 22 - Signs a new contract with the club. 2011: April 4 - Charged by FA with "use of offensive, insulting and/or abusive language" after swearing into a television camera during his team's 4-2 win at West Ham on April 2. He uttered an audible expletive after completing his hat-trick. May 14 - Scores penalty in 1-1 draw against Blackburn. The point is enough to win the league for United and Rooney collects his fourth Premier League winners medal. October 7 - Sent off whilst playing for England after kicking Montenegro defender Miodrag Dzudovic and misses first two matches of England's 2012 European Championship campaign. 2012: January 6 - United and Rooney release a joint statement dismissing a newspaper report that he is set to leave the club in the January transfer window. 2013: March 5 - Left out of United's starting XI for their Champions League last-16 second leg match against Real Madrid. May 8 - United say Rooney is "not for sale" after it is understood he had a chat with Ferguson saying it would be best if he made a fresh start away from Old Trafford. May 12 - Left out of the matchday squad for the home game against Swansea - Ferguson's final home game in charge. Ferguson later confirms Rooney "was not keen to play because he has asked for a transfer". July 7 - New United manager David Moyes confirms Rooney is "not for sale". July 16 - Rooney reportedly fuming at comments made by Moyes which suggested he was now regarded as a second-choice striking option behind Robin van Persie. August - Chelsea have two bids for Rooney rejected by United. September 9 - Ruled out of England's World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Ukraine after suffering gashed head in training. September 17 - Becomes only the fourth person to score 200 goals for United with a brace in 4-2 Champions League win over Bayer Leverkusen, emulating Sir Bobby Charlton, Denis Law and Jack Rowley. October 11 - Scores in 4-1 World Cup qualifying win over Montenegro and four days later nets in the 2-0 win over Poland as England secure their places in the finals. Rooney now has 38 international goals, 11 behind all-time record goalscorer Sir Bobby Charlton. 2014: Signs a new four-year contract worth around £300,000 a week, committing himself to the Old Trafford club until the end of the 2018-19 season.
