Andre Villas-Boas: Has a second chance to shine in the Premier League after becoming Spurs boss

Tottenham have appointed Andre Villas-Boas as their new boss on a three-year deal after identifying him as the man to succeed Harry Redknapp.

Villas-Boas arrived in London on Monday to conclude talks and a deal has now been finalised for him to take charge at White Hart Lane.

The Portuguese 34-year-old will begin work almost immediately as the squad returns for pre-season training ahead of the 2012/13 campaign.

Redknapp guided the team to fourth place in the Premier League last season but they missed out on a place in the UEFA Champions League after Chelsea's European success.

No.1 choice

Tottenham then took the decision to part company with Redknapp following fierce speculation over whether he would be offered a contract extension.

A number of names were linked with the role after Redknapp's exit but it has become clear over the past couple of weeks that Villas-Boas was very much their No.1 choice.

Villas-Boas spent much of last season across the capital with Chelsea, before being sacked in March following an inconsistent run of results.

He had previously made his name with Porto and will now be looking to repair his reputation during a second stint in the Premier League.

He has brought first-team fitness coach Jose Mario Rocha and head of opposition scouting Daniel Sousa with him as part of his backroom staff.
