Dalglish: apologised for conduct

Sky Bet

Wales manager Chris Coleman says Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish has done the right thing by apologising for his post-match interview with Sky Sports following his side's 2-1 defeat to Manchester United.

Dalglish told Geoff Shreeves he was not aware that Suarez had refused to shake hands with United defender Patrice Evra before the game got underway.

Dalglish sorry for conduct.

In a statement, the Scot said Suarez - making his first start for the Reds since being banned for eight matches after racially abusing Evra - had assured him that he would shake Evra's hand. The Uruguayan has since apologised for his conduct.

Coleman told Sky Sports that Dalglish - as well as his player and the club - were all doing the right thing by clearing the air.

"I've been there myself after the game - tensions are running high and you say things you regret but the most important thing is that it's never too late to say sorry, to apologise," he said.

"I commend Suarez and Kenny coming out and saying he wasn't happy with the interview that he did after the game.

"It's just a shame that all Suarez had to do was that [offer his hand to Evra] and then none of this happens."

Glad

Former United striker and fellow Sky Sports guest Dwight Yorke supported Coleman's view and said that he hoped the statements represented the beginning of the end of the controversy.

"This story can really prolong as long as everyone wants it to," he said.

"But I'm glad that Liverpool have made a statement. Kenny Dalglish has come out and backed the statement from the chief executive and Suarez himself has apologised.

"We all don't want to see it. We've made great strides over the years to eradicate racism out of football and throughout the football.

"We don't want it back in the game. We want people to come and enjoy watching football games and enjoy being around football - without all the 'negativeness' that is happening within football at the moment, so I'm delighted that Liverpool have made those statements.
