Game of the weekend

Chelsea 3 Man Utd 3

Sir Alex Ferguson's side came back from three goals down to draw in Sunday's six goal thriller at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea went in one up at the interval after Jonny Evans' unfortunate own goal and quickly raced into a three goal advantage thanks to Juan Mata's stunning volley and David Luiz's header which was heavily deflected off Rio Ferdinand. But the Red Devils refused to give up and Wayne Rooney notched a brace from the penalty spot after first Patrice Evra and then Danny Welbeck were adjudged to have been fouled in the area. Substitute Javier Hernandez nodded a late equaliser to earn the visitors a share of the spoils, although Utd keeper David De Gea pulled off two sensational fingertip saves at the death to deny first Mata and then debutant Gary Cahill.

Team of weekend

Arsenal

The Gunners hit seven past sorry Blackburn to post their first league win of 2012 and boost their hopes of a top four finish. Man Utd's never say die spirit saw the Red Devil's battle from three goals down, while Wolves also deserve a special mention after coming from a goal down to win at ten-man QPR and haul themselves out of the drop zone.

Goal of the weekend

Juan Mata

Mata scored a goal of the season contender with an angled volley to put Chelsea two up soon after the break at Stamford Bridge. The goal came from a fantastic pinpoint cross from Fernando Torres on the right flank, which picked out the unmarked Mata at the far post who made no mistake with this volley which left De Gea no chance. Other notable goals include debutant Papiss Cisse's rifled winner into the top corner for Newcastle against Aston Villa, while Danny Graham slotted home at full stretch from Gylfi Sigurdsson's inch perfect cross for Swansea's winner at West Brom.

Save of the weekend

David De Gea

De Gea pulled off a top class save to deny Mata's curling free-kick in stoppage time at Chelsea. The ball was heading for the top corner but the United keeper managed to push the ball round the post with a fingertip right hand save. In Sunday's other game, Tim Krul did really well to deny Gary Gardner and Emile Heskey a late leveller for Villa.

Player of the weekend

Robin van Persie

The flying Dutchman notched a hat-trick in Arsenal's 7-1 thrashing of ten-man Blackburn at the Emirates. The treble takes Van Persie's league total so far this season to 22 from 24 games, leaving him well clear in the race for the Golden Boot.

Gaffe of weekend

Tim Howard

The Everton keeper was left wrong footed for Wigan's opener in the draw at the DW Stadium. Jean Beausejour's cross deflected off substitute Phil Neville and the spin from the bounce beat the USA international, who should have done better. Fulham's Chris Baird had an afternoon to forget on his return to the league side after conceding a penalty and scoring an own goal, while Man United's Jonny Evans and Rio Ferdinand also netted own goals, but they were difficult to avoid.
