Real Madrid defender Marcelo is facing three months on the sidelines after suffering a broken metatarsal on international duty with Brazil.
The Brazil Football Federation has confirmed the 24-year-old picked up the injury during training ahead of Tuesday's friendly against Japan.
The 24-year-old has broken his fifth metatarsal in his right foot and may require surgery on the problem.
"I'll be back soon," said Marcelo. "There's plenty of time before the 2013 Confederations Cup, and I hope to play a part in it."
Marcelo, who has returned to Madrid for treatment, is likely to miss Real's clash at Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League on November 21st.
The injury strikes a further blow to Real coach Jose Mourinho, who is already without another left-back in Fabio Coentrao.
Coentrao was injured during the first half of Portugal's international with Russia on Friday to leave the coach with a selection headache for next week's Primera Liga game with Celta Vigo.
