Cris gets Brazil call-up

BRAZIL boss Carlos Alberto Parreira has added Bayer Leverkusen defender Cris to his 18-man squad for the March 29 friendly in Portugal.

The 1994 World Cup winning coach believes the 27-year-old is ready for an international appearance, despite Bayer struggling in Die Bundesliga this season.

Parreira has also included Arsenal midfielder Gilberto Silva in his squad, as Brazil will face their former manager in Felipe Scolari, who is now in charge of Euro 2004 hosts Portugal.

One interesting note to Parreira's squad is that he has only picked one goalkeeper for the friendly - that being Milan number one Dida.

Meanwhile, The Samba Boys have arranged to play Mexico in a friendly at the Estadio Azteca on April 29.

The Mexican FA have also affirmed that Brazil will bring their top players to the friendly in Mexico City, as stipulated under the match contract.

The match will be the first home encounter for Mexico's Argentine boss Ricardo Lavolpe, as El Tri prepare for their co-hosting of this summer's Football Confederation Gold Cup tournament.

Brazil and Mexico last played in March 2001, when the two Latin American sides drew 3-3 in Guadalajara.
