Carroll, Johnson and Rodriguez unlikely to require operations
Kenny Dalglish felt it was important not to risk Andy Carroll against Aston Villa and also confirmed Liverpool duo Glen Johnson and Maxi Rodriguez do not require surgery.
The trio did not feature in Liverpool's final game of the season on Sunday when Stewart Downing's first-half goal secured a 1-0 win.
Record signing Carroll was left on Merseyside due to a knee injury and his inclusion in England's squad for the European Under 21 Championship remains in doubt.
"Andy's not been able to sustain any reasonable time in training and it would have been irresponsible of us to bring him," said Reds boss Dalglish.
Unfair
"We played him last week (against Tottenham) but it was unfair on him that we did ask him to play.
"I didn't think we should risk the boy's fitness by bringing him.
"Although we've not got any games, it's important they're all back fit in July."
England full-back Johnson has been struggling with a hamstring injury, while Argentine midfielder Rodriguez has been carrying an adductor problem.
Dalglish added: "It's the same with Glen and Maxi - it's better to miss this game than pre-season training.
"I don't think any of them will need surgery.
"Maybe the end of the season has come at the right time for us - I might have been in the side next week!"
