Juan Sebastian Veron hopes his impressive form since returning to Argentina could initiate a recall to the national side.

Veron joined Estudiantes de la Plata this summer and has impressed many observers, who have championed the previously out of favour star for a return to La Albiceleste.

The former Manchester United, Chelsea and Internazionale man pulled the strings in his club's 7-0 win over rivals Gimnasia, and the 31-year-old is delighted by his decision to return to his homeland after falling out of favour in Serie A.

"I am very happy with the decision I took to come back to Argentina and I am happy with the way I am playing," said Veron.

"I feel that with my experience I am helping Estudiantes to progress."

Veron admits his desire to represent his country remains undiminished, with Argentina's new coach Alfio Basile rumoured to be considering the veteran for a recall.

"If I am recalled to the national team I will be the most happy person in the world. I would love to play for Argentina again," added Veron.

"All the players want to play for the national team, and it doesn't matter whether you are young or old.

"I am still the same player everyone knew, the only difference is that I am nearer to my country."
