Spain striker Fernando Torres believes that the team will bounce back from their defeat to the Netherlands.

The holders suffered a comprehensive 5-1 defeat to the Dutch in their opening game of the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil last Friday.

Xabi Alonso put the reigning European and world champions in the lead in Salvador, but the Netherlands launched a comeback thereafter to pick up all three points.

Robin van Persie and Arjen Robben scored a brace each, while Iker Casillas was directly responsible for conceding two goals.

Torres, who came on as a substitute in the second half, missed a good chance late in the match, but he has now insisted that they cannot pin the blame on anyone.

The 30-year-old Chelsea striker has stated that Spain are determined to improve their performance when they take on Chile at the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday.

It would be easy to point fingers and look out for the guilty people to blame but that is an excuse for losers.

“There are people who have taken advantage of the defeat to stick the boot in,” The Sun quotes him as saying. “But within the squad we don’t need to criticise ourselves.

“It would be easy to point fingers and look out for the guilty people to blame but that is an excuse for losers.

“This is a group which wins and loses together. The people who look to lay the blame are people who have competed at this level.

“It has hurt the players more than anyone and now we have to beat Chile. We cannot make any mistakes because we must assume Holland will beat Australia in their game.

“We lost our opener at the last World Cup against Switzerland but this defeat has been a lot harder to take.

“But we have demonstrated many times in the last few years that we know how to get out of tight spots.”
