Austria finished off their qualifying campaign in style with a 4-1 triumph over Azerbaijan but it was too little too late for them.

Turkey's defeat to the powerful Germans saw them lose their grip on second place as their hopes for reaching next summer's showpiece event took a dent.

Germany made it nine wins out of nine in their Euro 2012 qualifiers with a victory in Turkey which jeopardises their opponents' hope of joining them in Poland and Ukraine next summer.

Mario Gomez and Thomas Muller put Joachim Low's side 2-0 up before Hakan Balta gave Turkey hope by pulling a goal back with 10 minutes remaining.

Penalty

However, a Bastian Schweinsteiger penalty in the 86th minute sealed Germany's victory and saw Turkey drop to third place behind Belgium.

Marc Janko's second-half brace and goals by Andreas Ivanschitz and Zlatko Junuzovic earned Austria a win over 10-man Azerbaijan in their Euro 2012 qualifier at the Dalga Stadium in Baku.

The hosts were always up against it after losing defender Sasha Yunisoglu to a red card in the 27th minute following a foul on striker Janko and they found themselves trailing seven minutes later when Ivanschitz netted the opener.

Janko doubled Austria's lead at the start of the second half and he then scored the third in the 61st minute before Vuqar Nadirov pulled back a consolation goal for Azerbaijan.

Convincing

Junuzovic added Austria's fourth in the dying seconds to seal a convincing away win.

Belgium moved up to second in the group after a convincing win over 10-man Kazakhstan at the Roi Baudouin in Brussels.

A Timmy Simons penalty and strikes by Eden Hazard and Vincent Kompany put the home side in control before Vitaly Yevstigneev's late own goal gave Belgium a 4-0 lead.

Kairat Nurdauletov's late penalty was scant consolation for the visitors, who had Nurtas Kurgulin sent off for violent conduct after a foul on Dries Mertens in the 58th minute.
