Alessandro Del Piero admits he felt the nerves before taking his penalty in Italy's thrilling shoot-out success over France.
Italy claimed their fourth World Cup title after a 5-3 win in the shoot-out following a 1-1 draw in Berlin.
Del Piero was among the Azzurri's spot kick takers and he explained the tension which built up ahead of his attempt.
"The net was quite big, but only when I put the ball on the pitch," said Del Piero.
"Before this, I felt a big tension and I was unsure about how to shoot.
"I decided during the run, or maybe, someone else decided for me!"
After coming on as a substitute to decisive effect in the semi-final against Germany, Del Piero also climbed off the bench in the final.
Though the Juventus forward was worried he would not figure in the match, he concedes the end result was all that mattered.
He added: "We are really happy. It's a fantastic moment.
"I'm also really happy for myself. Ten years after the Champions League win with Juventus, winning the World Cup with the national team is absolutely fantastic.
"There has been a moment in which I asked myself why Lippi was waiting to put me on the pitch.
"But, when you win, everything is deleted and the happiness for the cup is bigger in comparison to everything else."
