Italy coach Marcello Lippi has decided to keep Daniele Bonera in his squad as doubts continue to surround the fitness of Gianluca Zambrotta.
Bonera initially missed out on Lippi's 23-man squad for the World Cup, but made the stand-by list.
The Parma man is now in line to replace Zambrotta in the squad if the Juventus star fails to recover from a thigh injury.
Zambrotta is set to undergo further tests on the injury next week and if the news is bad Bonera is likely to be promoted to the squad.
"Bonera will also be at the Coverciano training ground on Monday, seeing as Zambrotta's condition isn't good," said Lippi.
"We'll know more after Tuesday's tests and will make a decision by June 11."
Meanwhile, Roma captain Francesco Totti and Milan defender Alessandro Nesta are both doubts for the opening Group E game against Ghana on June 12.
The Serie A marksman has yet to find his match sharpness following ankle surgery in February, while Nesta picked up a knock in the friendly match against World cup competitors Ukraine.
