Doctor Pierpaolo Mariani believes Francesco Totti will be fit enough to represent Italy in the World Cup finals.
The Roma captain's place in Germany had been thrown into doubt after he suffered a serious ankle injury but his recovery has impressed medical staff.
"From April 20, Totti will start working with athletics coaches," said Mariani.
"His recovery is not quantifiable yet but, anyway, we are absolutely ahead of the times we were expecting."
Mariani performed the operation on Totti after the 29-year-old suffered the injury during a match against Empoli.
The nation held its breath in fear of losing the services of the classy forward but there is growing optimism that he will be fit to face Ghana on June 12.
