Italy will not appeal against Totti ban

Italy will not appeal against Francesco Totti's three-match ban for gross unsporting conduct - with the nation's football federation deciding to go along with Uefa's verdict.

Totti was caught on camera spitting at Danish player Christian Poulsen as the two nations played out a 0-0 draw.

Although he will now miss Italy's two remaining group games - and if the Azzurri qualify, the quarter final as well - Totti will not be mounting an appeal.

"In agreement with the player and the Italian Federation we decided not to make an appeal," said Totti's lawyer Giulia Bongiorno.

Any appeal could have seen the ban extended beyond the three games - and Italy will already desperately miss their star man.

Totti has publically apologised for the incident, and will be hopeful that his image is not further tarnished by the unsavoury goings on.
