AN experimental Italy recorded an impressive 2-1 win over Switzerland in their friendly in Geneva on Wednesday night.

The Italians had to battle back from a goal down to secure the win.

Rennes striker Alexander Frei gave Switzerland a dream start with the opening goal after just five minutes.

The lead was short-lived as Chievo defender Nicola Legrottaglie fired Italy level six minutes later heading home Fabrizio Miccoli's corner

In a tense second half the game looked set to end all-square until Internazionale midfielder Cristiano Zanetti popped up 14 minutes from time to net the winner for Italy with a firm header.

The result was the perfect warm-up for Italy's crucial clash in Finland in June as they look to keep their Euro 2004 qualifying campaign on track.
