Mark van Bommel has taken his first steps in management after being named on the coaching staff of the Holland Under-17 team.
Van Bommel, 36, retired from playing at the end of last season after a stellar career at club and international level that saw him capped 79 times by Holland and win league titles at PSV Eindhoven, AC Milan, Bayern Munich and Barcelona.
He already has a UEFA B coaching diploma and will join with the Under-17s as an assistant to head coach Maarten Stekelenburg.
Jelle Goes, technical manager of the KNVB, said: "It's fantastic that we can add Mark to the technical staff of the Under-17s.
"Mark has played both nationally and internationally at the highest level.
"The KNVB can utilise his experience in the development of this age group.
"In addition, Mark is at the beginning of his career as a coach and this is a good opportunity for him as a novice to gain experience."
