Holland claimed an expected success in their opening Euro 2012 qualifier as Klaas-Jan Huntelaar scored a hat-trick in a 5-0 victory over San Marino.
Ruud van Nistelrooy and Dirk Kuyt were also on target at Stadio Olimpico for the 2010 World Cup finalists, who host Finland next week.
Kuyt opened the scoring on 16 minutes from the penalty spot before Huntelaar, who joined Schalke from AC Milan this summer, netted his first of the game.
Huntelaar went on to seal a trio of goals and then Van Nistelrooy wrapped up the three-point haul in the dying embers of the game on his return from international retirement.
Ten-man Finland slipped to a 2-0 defeat to Moldova in their opening Euro 2012 qualifier.
Finland were forced to play the majority of the match with a player deficit after former Liverpool centre-back Sami Hyypia was sent off in the 36th minute.
Moldova made their advantage in personnel count in the second half as a 69th minute goal from Alexander Suvorov was followed five minutes later by a goal from Anatolie Doros.
Sweden defeated Hungary 2-0 in Solna, where Pontus Wernbloom scored both of the goals.
AZ Alkmaar man Wernbloom netted in the 51st and 73rd minute, respectively, in a match refereed by English official Martin Atkinson.
