Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has not been included in Marco van Basten's Dutch squad.
Ajax sensation Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has not been included in Marco van Basten's Dutch squad.
The centre forward has won many fans with his goals for Heerenveen and Ajax this term and he had been tipped to win a place on the plane to Germany.
However, van Basten has opted to overlook the youngster.
Van Basten has admitted Huntelaar was unfortunate to miss out, but expects him to be a star of the future.
"Klaas-Jan had a good season at Ajax and Heerenveen with many goals but is unlucky that we won't take four central strikers to the World Cup," said van Basten.
"He made a good impression last week and is a balanced boy who will make the squad in the coming years."
Another surprise was the absence of AZ Alkmaar defender Barry Opdam in favour of Ajax's John Heitinga.
"Opdam is a good defender who performed well but the last months weren't his best, while Heitinga fought back impressively," added van Basten.
Tottenham midfielder Edgar Davids and Middlesbrough enforcer George Boateng have been overlooked, while injury has put paid to Nigel de Jong's hopes.
Feyenoord duo Romeo Castelen and Ron Vlaar and Ajax man Urby Emanuelsson have missed out, but Kew Jaliens has been given the nod despite damaging a leg on Friday.
