Irish midfielder Glenn Whelan does not think that Wales manager Chris Coleman will be brave enough to select Gareth Bale for this week's friendly international in Cardiff.
The Stoke player expects Bale to miss Wednesday's match owing to the speculation surrounding the Welsh player's future.
Bale has been the target of Real Madrid all summer, although his club Tottenham are continuing to reject transfer offers from the Spanish giants - reportedly in the region of £80m.
Whelan, who believes Bale will not be risked in the Wales-Republic of Ireland friendly, said: "I am not too sure he will play. He has got a big-money move lined up.
"No one knows if it is on or off but if I was Gareth I would maybe be a little wary of playing before any deal is made.
"But it's up to himself and his manager. I dare say he would like to get a deal done and then play for his country.
"But if it isn't done, I don't think we'll see him."
