MK Dons' Ben Reeves and Will Grigg have been named in the Northern Ireland squad to face Hungary in next month's European qualifier.

Midfielder Reeves is the only uncapped player in a 26-man party which also includes Grigg, a scorer in the Dons' 4-0 Capital One Cup victory over Manchester United this week.

United's Jonny Evans, part of the side humbled at Stadium MK, is suspended for the Group F opener in Budapest on September 7, while Martin Paterson is injured.

Boss Michael O'Neill, who will cut three players from his squad before travelling to Hungary, said: "Confidence is everything in footall and Ben and Griggsy will be coming off a real high after the Manchester United win.

"When you see them playing at that level, with that kind of exposure and scrutiny and they step up and deal with it that is a huge positive.

"The biggest thing for me with my players is are they fit and in a good frame of mind and the next thing is how well they are doing at their club.

"Griggsy has had a good start to the season after a difficult year at Brenftford and Ben is a player who is an excellent technical player who can really give me something to think about."

Four senior players - Chris Brunt, Gareth McAuley, Kyle Lafferty and Jamie Ward - are recalled by O'Neill after they were rested for the summer tour of South America.

Northern Ireland squad: Carroll, Mannus, McGovern, Hughes, Baird, McAuley, Cathcart, D Lafferty, R McLaughlin, C McLaughlin, McCullough, Bruce, Davis, Brunt, Clingan, C Evans, Norwood, Ferguson, Paton, Reeves, K Lafferty, McGinn, Ward, McKay, Magennis, Grigg.
