Michael O'Neill: Aiming to finish his Shamrock spell on a high by beating Tottenham

Departing Shamrock Rovers boss Michael O'Neill insists he is fully focused on the Europa League clash against Tottenham Hotspur - despite speculation about his future.

The Dublin club has confirmed O'Neill will leave when his contract expires at the end of the month.

The 42-year-old, who joined from Scottish side Brechin City three years ago, has been linked with the vacant Northern Ireland job.

It is thought O'Neill has been offered an interview for the role by the Irish Football Association.

He has refused to discuss his plans until after Thursday's game against the Premier League giants at Tallaght Stadium.

But he is hoping to go out with a bang by causing a major upset in his final match at the helm.

Success

O'Neill, who helped Shamrock become the first League of Ireland side to qualify for the group stage of a European competition, said: "I'm looking forward to the game. That's all I'm focusing on.

"As for all the other questions about my own future there is time to deal with that after the game.

"I hope I can go out on a high.

"The players have been fantastic here and I hope what I have achieved will be seen as a success.

"It would be fantastic for our supporters if we could take something out of the game tomorrow night and round it off in a nice fashion."

O'Neill's side stunned Spurs by leading 1-0 in September's reverse fixture before goals from Jermain Defoe, Roman Pavlyuchenko and Giovani Dos Santos ended any hopes of an upset.

The Shamrock boss added: "We have to make it a cup tie. We will try to make it as uncomfortable as possible for Tottenham.

"It's always nice to take the scalp of a big club. The players have everything to gain."
