Craigan to hand captain's role to Fulham stopper

Northern Ireland boss Nigel Worthington has confirmed that Aaron Hughes will regain the captaincy against Italy in their Euro 2012 qualifier at Windsor Park on Friday. Motherwell defender Stephen Craigan was given the honour of captaining his country in last month's win over Slovenia as reward for winning his 50th cap. However, Fulham ace Hughes will take the armband again for the visit of Italy in Northern Ireland's second qualifier. "Stephen borrowed it for the night and had a fantastic time overall. He fully deserved the honour," said Worthington "Now the armband will return to Aaron against Italy. That is accepted and expected."

Injury doubt

Worthington also revealed Blackpool defender Craig Cathcart remains doubtful after suffering a back spasm in the victory against Liverpool. "There is a question mark over his fitness," added Worthington.
