UEFA has announced that it has charged the Football Association of Wales (FAW) following a pitch invasion by supporters during Tuesday night's match in Andorra.
Wales fans raced onto the pitch to celebrate Gareth Bale's decisive goal in Wales' 2-1 victory in a European qualifier.
And a UEFA statement read: "Disciplinary proceedings have been opened following the European Qualifier Group B match between Andorra and Wales played on Tuesday 9 September in Andorra."
The FAW said it is not commenting on the investigation.
Under article six of UEFA's disciplinary regulations, there are a wide-range of punishments available, including a warning, a fine and a points deduction.
The crowd surged onto the field after Real Madrid forward Bale completed a Welsh comeback from in the 81st minute, the hosts having gone in front thanks to an early Ildefons Lima penalty - Andorra's first goal in a competitive fixture since 2010.
Wales' next two Euro 2016 qualifiers are both at home in October, against Bosnia-Herzegovina and Cyprus.
The Andorra federation is also facing sanctions after its players received six yellow cards against Wales and UEFA criticized "insufficient organization."
UEFA say a decision will be made on both cases on 16 October.
