Raymond Verheijen: Chris Coleman keen for assistant manager to stay on

Wales' new head coach Chris Coleman has confirmed he wants Raymond Verheijen to remain part of the national set-up.

The Dutchman was assistant manager to the late Gary Speed and is believed to be a popular figure with a number of the squad senior players.

Coleman is now at the helm and the former Fulham and Coventry boss is looking to piece his back-room staff together.

It was thought Verheijen's desire to succeed Speed was an issue for some, but Coleman has played down suggestions the duo do not see eye-to-eye.

"We're very much looking for that [Verheijen staying]," stated Coleman.

"But we've only had one meeting, so I spoke as much with Raymond as I did with (coach) Osian Roberts or anyone else - nothing special.

"People have made it into something that it's not, really. It was a productive meeting and we'll speak again. It was promising."
