Speed's death meant forward missed match

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish confirmed that Craig Bellamy was left out of their side to face Manchester City after Gary Speed's tragic death. The Football Association of Wales announced on Sunday morning that Speed had passed away, which came just hours before Liverpool's game at Anfield. Bellamy, a close friend of Speed having played with him throughout his career and was now playing under him for Wales, was not considered by Dalglish. "Craig was upset and I took the decision for him, to say there are more important things than playing football, and told him to just have the day off," said the Liverpool boss. "It was best for us to make the decision. Craig was very close to Gary, who was a mentor to him."
