Grant Holt: Norwich striker has been told to not give up on his England dreams
Chris Hughton believes Norwich skipper Grant Holt should never give up hope of breaking into Roy Hodgon's England squad.
The Canaries hitman plundered 15 Premier League goals as City finished 12th in their debut year back in the top flight.
But the Cumbrian admitted he put any international dreams to one side when he was snubbed from the latest Three Lions squad for the World Cup qualifiers against San Marino and Poland.
However, despite facing an uphill battle, Hughton is sure Holt can still get his chance should he emulate his success of last season.
"I think he has been unlucky," said Hughton. "Players brought into the squad of late have been scoring goals, which is why I was delighted for him to score last week.
"Right now things might look like they are on a downer for him but things can change. It is a long, hard season.
"He certainly shouldn't give up hope. Not in this game. Grant can't do himself any harm if he scores goals so I was delighted that he scored his second one (against Chelsea).
"I hope that's him up and running now and any claim that he might have to get in England squads will be a result of him scoring goals and scoring goals like he did last season."
