Ashley Young says he is glad that his versatility has come in useful for England after scoring the winner in Saturday's victory over Norway.
Young netted the only goal of the game in Oslo after just nine minutes when he went past Brede Hangeland and slotted home a fine finish.
The Manchester United man performed effectively in the second-striker role but insists he would have no problem if Roy Hodgson shifted him into another position.
He said: "I've played in many positions. That role against Norway is a position I've played in before and I was pleased with my performance.
"But I'm a versatile player and wherever the manager picks me to play, I will go out there and play.
"I enjoy every game I play for England, whether a friendly or in a major tournament, whatever role I am asked to perform."
Young praised the performance of goalkeeper Robert Green, in his first international for nearly two years since his blunder against the United States in the 2010 World Cup.
He said: "Any keeper would take confidence from a clean sheet and I thought Greeny was terrific.
"He was coming and claiming crosses and talking from the word go right to the end."
Positive exercise
The victory over Norway gave Hodgson a winning start to his England reign and defender Joleon Lescott believes it sets the team up nicely for the greater challenges that lie ahead.
"As a building block towards the Euros, this was a very good exercise," said Lescott.
"Obviously it's early days with the new manager and the new staff set-up so I think people need to practice what they've been trying to work on in training.
"It was important to get a win to build confidence and hopefully we can do that next week as well against Belgium."
