Norwich goalkeeper John Ruddy has been ruled out of England's squad for Euro 2012 through injury.

Butland drafted into squad from standby list

Norwich goalkeeper John Ruddy has been ruled out of England's squad for Euro 2012 through injury. The uncapped goalkeeper was named in Roy Hodgson's 23-man squad earlier this month after impressing for Norwich this season. Ruddy was expected to provide cover for No.1 Joe Hart and Rob Green between the posts. However, Ruddy's spell with England has been cut short after picking up an injury in training on Thursday. Scans have shown Ruddy has sustained a broken finger and he will now not be fit for the trip to Poland and Ukraine. Ruddy will travel to Oslo to watch Saturday's friendly with Norway before returning home to England. It means Birmingham goalkeeper and England Under 21 international Jack Butland has been drafted into the squad from the standby list. A statement on the Football Association website read: "The FA can confirm that Norwich City goalkeeper John Ruddy broke his finger in training on Thursday and has been ruled out of UEFA Euro 2012. "Ruddy was assessed by the England medical staff and will not be able to be part of the tournament. He will travel with the squad to Norway on Friday and watch the game on Saturday evening, but return to his club after arriving back in England. "Birmingham City goalkeeper Jack Butland, who was previously on the standby list, will join up next week and be part of the squad in preparation for the Belgium game and the tournament in Poland and Ukraine."
