Alex McLeish: Says Darren Bent's progress from injury is up to speed

Alex McLeish says Darren Bent is progressing well from injury, but the Aston Villa manager cannot predict whether the striker will be fit for the Euro 2012 finals.

The goalscoring ace is on course with his rehabilitation work and resumed light running this week after an ankle injury.

Bent was also visited by England's medical team this week and McLeish admits that will act as a massive confidence boost to Villa's record signing.

The Villa boss said: "It is good news in terms of Benty' from the point of view that his progress is up to speed, up to date.

"He has started running again which is great news and we are delighted with his progress. If your next question is 'is he going to go to the Euros' then I can't answer that. I don't know."
Alex McLeish Quotes of the week

"The England doctor was here this week to see our own doctor, Ian McGuinness, and they are happy with Benty's progress.

Great news

"He has started running again which is great news and we are delighted with his progress. If your next question is, 'is he going to go to the Euros' then I can't answer that. I don't know."

McLeish added: "It is brilliant for Benty' and great for his confidence that the England people came to see him.

"It is good for his mindset from the point of view that England are still thinking about him.

"He has been important to them in the past, they know what he can do, and he could be a valuable asset for them in the Euros if he is fit enough."
