General secretary Alex Horne confirms FA will wait for new man

The Football Association's general secretary Alex Horne has confirmed that it has a list of potential successors to replace Fabio Capello, but it will not make any approaches until the end of the current season. Horne is part of the four-man panel, which also includes Sir Trevor Brooking, Adrian Bevington and David Bernstein, to decide the next England coach. Horne has revealed to Sky Sports News that they have already discussed Capello's successor, and that they have compiled a list - which includes managers currently in work, and as a result they will not make any approaches until the end of the season. Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp is firm favourite to take charge, but Horne insists that they have more than one candidate for the role. The Premier League, as with all major leagues in Europe, finishes on May 13th - about a month before the start of Euro 2012 - but the FA clearly has no qualms about waiting until then to find their man.

List

"We've got a list. Long, short....there's definitely a list. It's a back-end-of-the-season decision for us," Horne told Sky Sports News HD. "We recognise that a lot of the managers on the list are employed and we don't want to interrupt anyone's season. "We're not rushing this and we are expecting something at the back end of the season." He added that there was no problem waiting until just before Euro 2012 before making the appointment. "That's perfectly realistic," said Horne. "We've got all of our operational plans in place. We can deliver a squad into Poland so it is perfectly possible." England Under 21 coach Stuart Pearce, who is currently in temporary charge of the side and oversaw the midweek defeat to Holland, has admitted he would be willing to take charge of the squad for the European Championship.
