Campbell gets England call

Fraizer Campbell has won his first call-up to the England squad for next week's friendly with Holland, while Micah Richards has been recalled.

Pearce springs striker surprise; Richard recalled

Fraizer Campbell has won his first call-up to the England squad for next week's friendly with Holland, while Micah Richards has been recalled. Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard returns to the fold after recovering from injury, but Rio Ferdinand and Frank Lampard have been left out. Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley is in line to win his first cap after recovering from a long-term ankle injury. Chelsea forward Daniel Sturridge, who was a regular in Pearce's Under 21 squad, is also named in the senior squad. West Ham goalkeeper Robert Green has been recalled to the squad as one of the three goalkeepers alongside Joe Hart and Scott Carson, with David Stockdale dropping out.

No place

Arsenal youngster Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who had been tipped for a call-up, has been overlooked for selection as he has been named in the Under 21s. John Terry, who was stripped of the captaincy last month, is missing as he is sidelined with a knee injury, while there is no place for Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott. Lescott's City team-mate Richards, who was continually overlooked by Fabio Capello, has earned a recall after impressing at the Etihad Stadium this season. However, there is no place for Liverpool striker Andy Carroll despite his recent improved form at Anfield. Campbell's call-up is the major surprise in the squad with the Sunderland striker having recently recovered from 18 months out of action after two knee ligament operations.
