Toon boss wants England role - but only after Redknapp

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew is keen to take over as England manager at some stage in his career but wants to see Harry Redknapp in the role first. Tottenham manager Redknapp is a hot favourite to fill the Three Lions job when Fabio Capello steps down after this summer's Euro 2012 championship. Pardew, who has enjoyed an impressive season with Newcastle so far, leading them to sixth in the Premier League, has backed the Spurs boss to excel in the role should he succeed Capello. The 50-year-old Londoner feels he is currently lacking the experience needed to manage his country but admits he would jump at the chance to take over in the future.

Experience

He told The Sun: "Right now I'm fully behind Harry. I hope he gets it because he'd understand that role. "He's experienced enough and has the motivational devices to succeed. "Hopefully I'll get myself into a position where I'm experienced enough to be able to do that. I want to be at the top of my profession. "I'd like to expand myself and manage overseas but, ultimately, would I like to be England manager at some stage if I was lucky enough to be asked? Yes."
