Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger believes England deserve to win the vote for the 2018 World Cup finals.

Gunners boss hails the passion for football

Arsene Wenger believes England deserve to win the vote for the 2018 World Cup and hopes there will be cause for celebration. England will discover on Thursday afternoon if their bid to stage the tournament in 2018 has fended off competition from Russia, Spain/Portugal and Holland/Belgium. Fifa's executive committee has been vigorously lobbied by the England bid team in Zurich over the past few days and the bid is now favourite to win the vote. Arsenal manager Wenger has thrown his support behind the bid and is keen to see football's biggest competition staged on English soil.

Special

"I have worked as hard as I can for the bid and hope we can celebrate in Zurich because England deserves it," said Wenger. "I'm a great fan of this bid because I believe here more than anywhere else, there is passion. "I would like people who really like football in this country to be rewarded with that because it is a passion you find nowhere else. "When I see that England sell out a friendly game against France, you think that is really something special. "I'd really love the World Cup to come here."
