Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas claims that Wayne Rooney currently lacks the consistency to be considered a world-class performer.

Casillas is likely to come face to face with the teenager in the international friendly with England at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday night.

The Real Madrid custodian paid tribute to Rooney's talent, but feels he is too hit-and-miss at this stage of his career to be ranked alongside the world's best.

"Rooney is a dangerous forward, but he does not have the consistency to be number one worldwide," he told skysports.com.

"He has one excellent match, two ordinary ones and three bad ones which is not the form of a star. He's still in the adaptation phase at Manchester United.

"I am not worried about Rooney or any other striker in the world. I play against the best and the only thing that bothers me is my performance."

Casillas believes the weight of expectation on the youngster's shoulders could harm his progress, but insisted in two years' time he would be closer to the finished article.

"The pressure to be a superstar could to harm him because he is still young," he continued.

"In any case he has already achieved a lot. In two years he could be a 'crack' [star player]."

Casillas was more complimentary about Real team-mates Michael Owen and David Beckham, believing both players could provide major problems for Spain on Wednesday.

However, he feels the fact that both now ply their trade in Spain will make it easier to curb their threat.

"David [Beckham] and Michael [Owen] playing on the other team will always be dangerous for me, but we know how they play and so it is easier to stop them.

"Owen is in a great moment of form and the Spain defenders could have a lot of work against him.

"The arrival of Owen at Real Madrid is positive. He scores goals, which is fundamental for any forward.

"He is happy with us, which is important for a foreign player in this club.

"Will Beckham be dangerous if he plays? Of course, he is dangerous even in training."
